Review: DeWalt Lightweight Circular Saw

Do you need a circular saw that gets all of the basics right? Are you looking for a lightweight saw that won’t make your arm feel like it’s made of lead by the end of a cut? Then you might just be looking for the DeWalt lightweight circular saw. Weighing in at just 8.8 pounds, this imported circular saw is easy to use, cuts consistently well, and features an electric saw brake so you don’t have to keep worrying about a spinning blade.

You have three options when looking at this circular saw. You can purchase the saw on its own, have it come with a rip fence option, or have it come with the saw blade. If you choose the former, then be aware that this tool takes the standard 7.25-inch blades.

What Are the Key Specifications of the DeWalt Circular Saw Model DWE575SB?

Here are the specs that you’ll want to know about if you’re thinking about the DeWalt circular saw for your woodworking needs.

  • It features a 15-amp motor to provide consistent cutting power. This allows it to produce a no-load speed of up to 5,200 RPM.
  • It has a maximum watts-out rating of 1950 watts.
  • Its bevel capacity is 57 degrees, with bevel stops at 22.5 and 45 degrees.
  • The depth of cut at 90 degrees is rated at 2.5 inches, while the depth of cut at 45 degrees is 1.9 inches.

We really liked the design of this particular saw when it comes to making bevel cuts. The lower guard has been designed to work with the integrated dust blower so that you always have a clear sight line while performing a cut. You also have a cord protection system that works with you to prevent cord pull-out issues.

Out of the box comes a carrying case and a space for on-board tool storage. They’re nice features to have, making the circular saw a little more portable than some of its competitors. Just a little, because we all know true portability lies in cordless models, like the Black & Decker Li-Ion.

What Could Be Improved with the DeWalt Circular Saw?

We had a bit of trouble from time to time locking down the stability of the shoe for this circular saw. The bevel height and adjustments lock down just fine, but the back of the shoe doesn’t provide this same luxury. It’s not that big of an issue when you get used to the tool, but it can be a surprise for those who might be expecting a different experience.

We also found that a few chip outs and splintering did tend to occur with this saw on virtually every blade that we tried. This includes the 100-tooth blades, though the higher tooth count did dramatically minimize the issue.

Conclusion

On the whole, we were more than satisfied with what the DeWalt lightweight circular saw was able to do. Although there are some slight issues that require a user’s attention, we found the cutting process to be simplified, helpful, and consistent for woodworkers of all skill levels. Which is why this is one of our recommended circular saws.
