Why purchase an oversized shop vacuum when you have a smaller space that requires cleaning? Why compromise on the number of attachments or features you receive because you’re purchasing an entry-level shop vacuum for your home or work space? The Shop Vac 1.5-gallon wet/dry vacuum offers a 2 HP peak performance and a maximum level of versatility for a very affordable price.
Unlike other Shop Vac models, there is not a dolly or any wheels that come with this product. It sits flat on the ground, taking advantage of a 4-inch hose with a 1.25-inch diameter to get your work done. It also comes with a crevice tool and a gulper nozzle.
What we really appreciated with this vacuum, however, is the fact that is can be mounted on your wall. If your primary need for a shop vacuum is to use it as an attachment for a power sander, table saw, or other power tools, then this convenient feature will let you work where you are most comfortable without the risk of a huge mess.
How Does This Shop Vac Work as an Actual Vacuum?
The size of the tank on this vacuum limits its ability to function as a primary vacuum. It can do a good job in a small shop or for portable applications, like vacuuming the rugs in a vehicle. If you were trying to clean a garage or a home with this vacuum, however, it would take a lot of time due to the lack of reach and the reduced size of the tank.
The exhaust on this Shop Vac is noticeably strong. You’ve got to be careful about where you place the tank when working, especially if you’re just starting to clean up a mess. We created a massive dust storm on our first attempt. The good news is that this means the vacuum is surprisingly powerful, over-performing when it comes to suction. This limits clogging. It also means that you can give yourself some extra work if you’re not careful.
What Could Be Improved with the Shop Vac 1.5 Gallon Model?
We found that this Shop Vac can become a little top heavy if you’re trying to clean up a large liquid mess. The last thing you want is to have your Shop Vac spill out the mess you just picked up. Thankfully the float ball in the check valve tends to cut-off the suction before you reach this point, but this also limits the amount of liquid that can be picked up at one time.
The cord on this particular Shop Vac is also pretty short, at just 6 feet. Since the hose length is just 4 feet, you don’t get a lot of reach at all. This gets offset by the maximum 48 PSI that this vacuum can produce, along with its extremely lightweight design at just over 5 pounds.
We struggled to keep the accessories on the tank. It was easier to just take them off.
For an affordable Shop Vac, this model does have a lot of strength. If you want a shop vacuum that has a minimal number of features and capacity or you’re looking for something to pair directly with your tools, then we believe you’ll enjoy using this vacuum. That’s how it earns our recommendation today.
